The pile of used bottle caps I have been collecting is starting to reach toward socially unacceptable hoarding.  So I figured I should start figuring what to do with them.  I just knit up a warm wooly cowl from that unraveled sweater yarn that seems to never end (Finished project #5).  I like the eclectic look of old bottle caps as buttons; the main downside was that the edges were sort of pokey and snagged on the yarn...but of course it is nothing a leatherman couldn’t fix.

To make your own bottle cap buttons:

  1. 1)Fold edges in using pliers.          2) Tap in holes with an awl.                    3) Sew on.

Quite simple.  The edges of the tapped holes can be a bit sharp so be sure to use some pretty sturdy thread so it doesn’t just chafe through.  I’m still thinking of ways to flatten the caps too and somehow wire them together to make...something...hmmm.
