I’ve been staring at lots and lots of numbers lately.  The purple sweater project was proving too stressful to work on when my brain wanted to be switched off, so I cast on for this simple scarf knit lengthwise in garter stitch.  I used up all (well about half) of my odd bits of wool yarn scraps.  Apparently I like to knit projects in two color categories...neutral/natural colors, which are still in the scrap bag...and early 90s colors, which became this scarf.  It appears I’ve overloaded my brain quite a lot because the scarf is now done...finished project #12.  It is super warm and matches pretty much every winter coat I’ve ever had...especially the ones from the 1990s.

A simple pattern...with mostly worsted weight wool yarn.  Cast on 220 stitches on size 8 needles.  Knit every row till the yarn is gone and bind off.  (Actually I was worried about my cast on and bound off edge having the same elasticity so I did a provisional cast on in the middle and then worked out to both sides...but this is optional).  Since it is knit lengthwise variation in yarn diameter is not as noticeable...and you don’t have to weave in ends, just tie them into the fringe.
